School Counseling

Here to Help

Magnificat’s Counseling Department provides comprehensive counseling services that include academic, personal/social, and college guidance.
Every student is assigned a school counselor who will work with her one-on-one and in group sessions to support her entire educational journey. Over the course of four years, the counselor comes to truly know students as individuals and serve as a trusted resource as questions arise — from choosing freshman classes to selecting a college.

Our counselors bring a wealth of knowledge about academic and college planning, mental health, and crisis intervention. Their goal is to tailor interactions with students and provide thoughtful and meaningful content in small-group settings

Counselors collaborate with faculty and parents, forming a partnership in their roles as co-educators. The Counseling Team is committed to integrating mental health and other relevant topics in small groups while tailoring individual conversations to meet the needs of each unique student experience.

Academics

Counselors provide individual advising in selecting high school coursework and schedules. The goal is for each student to be challenged at the level that is appropriate to their individual ability. Counselors collaborate with the Student Success Center for additional support.

Personal and Social

Our department has full-time licensed counselors who are skilled in supporting students with social and emotional challenges. Students can have individual, confidential counseling sessions with their school counselors whenever needed, and counselors make referrals to community counselors and psychologists when needed.

College and Career

All students receive accounts for Naviance, an on-line program for college and career planning, that they will use throughout their four years. Learning style self-assessments, career interest inventories, and resume building are completed through Naviance, which is also used for each student’s college search. Visit the College Guidance page for more information.
